During the summer months moles begin to dig much deeper for food. As the ground dries the worms and other food moves deeper underground, as expected the the moles follow. This does mean for many that the signs of moles being present reduces. However for those who water their gardens or who have irrigation systems the problems are about to begin.

Yes, and very quickly. By watering your garden you cause the worms to move into shallower ground. Moles can detect the movement of their food and as a result they follow it. The outcome is inevitable, molehills in your gardens, flower beds and lawns. Whilst your garden is the dampest area near the moles, thats where they will travel to, rich with food and paradise for them.

The moles will go away if you stop watering, but that doesn't help your garden stay green and colorful. Unfortunately you cant have it both ways, if you water the moles will come, if you stop, your garden will suffer.

Today I attended the Level II Molecatcher course run by well known Molecatcher, Jeff Nichols. An excellent experience and a must for anyone starting out in mole control. I was pleased to learn a few new things and expand my knowledge of Moles.

One of my dogs seems to be misbehaving and is on the pot again, with any luck there's a Mole in the pot that will come up and bite his ar**. Funny thing with dogs is they teach each other these bad habits, Willow is regularly on the pot, trouble is she digs too. Cant beat black muddy feet trampling through the kitchen. Willow is my Mole dog, put her in a field with a 100 traps and she will take you to each trap with a mole in, never any need to check the others, she is never wrong and never misses a catch!! Top dog!
